UC CAS alumnus victors the first MFF

Wilfredo C. Aquino, an alumnus of UC College of Arts and Sciences, is the author and director of the short film titled โ€œThis Dayโ€ which has been awarded as Best Film during the concluded ceremony of the first Montaรฑosa Film Festival on March 29, 2021.

“This Day” is about a farmer’s son studying in the City. He has mastered dealing things on his own until an unprecedented event has caught him unawares. Although the obstacles of life have pushed him to the edge, he is confident that he can make it through even if he crosses the border of uncertainty.

Wilfredo bested 9 other competitors.

The MFF aspires to showcase and promote the crafts of aspiring and current independent filmmakers of the Cordillera Administrative Region. This is to celebrate the region’s rich culture and perpetual heritage and to explore film as a tool in reviving the tourism industry in the wake of COVID-19.

The first MFF has been presented by the Baguio City Mayor’s Office and the Department of Tourism supported by festival lead partners- Council for Baguio Creative City, Baguio Tourism Council, Tourism Promotions Board, Film Development Council of the Philippines, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Cultural Center of the Philippines, and University of the Philippines- Baguio; the Embassies of France, India, and Czech Republic.

Wilfredo had also written, edited, and directed “Swerte” which had won Best Online Short Film during the 2016 CineFilipino Film Festival.
