UC Promotes Gender Sensitivity and Women Empowerment

In a move to champion gender equality and sensitivity, the University’s Student Affairs Office – Student Development and Welfare Office has led a Women’s Month Celebration. Aptly named “Beyond my Pronouns: Promoting Women’s Empowerment through the use of Gender Fair Language”, the program’s objective is to dismantle stereotypes and stigmas that have long been associated with the female gender.

At the forefront of the event was Ms. Ginalyn Resurreccion, an esteemed UC Professor, and a staunch advocate for women’s rights and equality. As the program’s resource speaker, Ms. Resurreccion illuminated the attendees on the nuances of language in a gender-fair society. Her discussion revolved around the importance of evolving our linguistic practices and understanding the detrimental effects of lingering gender-based designations on women’s roles in society.

It’s worth noting the adaptability of the institution, given the current global scenario. Embracing technology, the event seamlessly transitioned to a digital space, taking place on the Zoom Webinar Platform. This format ensured that the University’s essential message of gender equality reached UC students and staff, despite physical distance, reinforcing the University’s dedication to critical societal issues.

The celebration encapsulates the University’s broader commitment to gender fairness, and it serves as a testament to its innovative approach to addressing societal challenges head-on.
