The University of the Cordilleras’ Project Health, Education, Livelihood, Environment, and Nurturance (Project H.E.L.E.N.), in partnership with the university’s college coordinators and student volunteers, launched ‘Tabtaval shi Tublay’ in the Municipality of Tublay, Benguet; held at the Agriculture Building located in Caponga, from August 18 to 19, 2022.
As part of the university’s aim of giving back to the community, ‘Tabtaval shi Tublay’ was a two-day educational kumustahan program that aimed to empower the community to undertake educational outreach activities beyond campus in local schools, community.
Despite the gloomy weather that had encroached on the municipality, a warm welcome was received by the UC Project H.E.L.E.N. team from the Municipal Mayor Honorable Armando Lauro together with other barangay officials, representatives of their Sangunian Kabataan, and municipal workers.
On the first day, the program commenced through a groovy zumba activity led by the UC College of Teacher Education. After, the same college lectured about ‘Basic Parental Education’ addressing the trends, issues, and challenges of parenting amid the pandemic. Further, the UC College of Nursing ended the morning session with a presentation about Covid-19 Safety and Health Protocols.
In the afternoon, UC College of Hospitality and Tourism Management discussed economic empowerment bannered “Sandok Kawali Phase 2.” Later, a discussion on cultural sensitivity and values formation was done by UC College of Criminal Justice Education followed by solid waste management and environmental protection conducted by UC College of Engineering and Architecture.
The second day began with the UC College of Accountancy presenting about financial management, followed by basic computer literacy with the inclusion of smart tips on utilizing e-commerce applications by the UC College of Information and Computer Science.
The last session was started by UC Innovation and Technology Transfer Office through their discussion on ways to innovate and protect property intellectual rights. This topic was further expounded by the College of Business Administration’s discussion on the SWOT Process. This topic bequeathed to the participants ideas on how to weigh risks and opportunities in starting a local product. The day ended with a discourse on mental health awareness and coping skills facilitated by UC College of Arts and Sciences.
The event concluded with grateful notes and a pledge of support between UC and the Municipality of Tublay, through the persons of UC Vice President for Administration and Academic Services Dr. Rhodora A. Ngolob, and Honorable Armando Lauro.
