Sharing Best Practices During the Enhanced Local Climate Change Action Plan (eLCCAP) for Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (MDRRMOs) and Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators (MPDCs)

The University is dedicated to recognizing emerging challenges and offering suitable innovative solutions. In line with this commitment, UCโ€™S Research Services Office took an active role in a four-day training program organized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) on December 22, 2022.

The objective of this training was to provide coaching to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (MDRRMOs) and Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators (MPDCs) regarding the nine-step process for enhancing the Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP). This enhancement included the integration of low emission development (LED) strategies, the incorporation of Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA) and fostering awareness about the Philippines’ commitment to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Engr. Nathaniel Vincent A. Lubrica, UC RSO Executive Director, actively shared the University’s best practices for addressing emerging challenges and issues. During the training, one of the notable projects showcased was Project GUHeat, a collaborative effort between UC and UP Diliman. This project centered on the examination of urban heat islands in major cities, which are exacerbated by climate change, and it put forward solutions to mitigate the adverse effects of these heat islands.

Engr. Lubrica also emphasized the importance of UC’s Geographic Information System (GIS) Laboratory, particularly in the context of its partnership with the Baguio Local Government Units (LGUs) for joint efforts in climate action. This collaboration aims to enhance the city’s preparedness and response to climate-related challenges.
