Senior high school student journalists from The Verdant Lens, the official student publication of the UC Senior High School Department, took a decisive step toward journalistic excellence as they trained with UC student journalists from The Alternative, UCโs official student media and publication, in preparation for the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC).
Held on January 30, 2026, the training focused on sharpening both creative and technical competencies vital in todayโs fast-shifting media landscape. Workshops covered a wide range of disciplines, including news and sports writing, editorial and column writing, feature and science and technology writing, photojournalism, radio and mobile broadcasting, as well as graphics and layout.
The initiative underscored equipping participants with skills for effective, multi-platform storytelling, strengthening student journalism, and raising publication standards through mentorship, collaboration, and hands-on learning.
The activity supported SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing media literacy and practical learning beyond the classroom, and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by empowering young journalists to promote transparency, informed discourse, and responsible communication within their communities.
