Revisiting the UC Technopreneurship Course

The Technopreneurship course (shortened as “Techno100”) looks into the concepts, principles, and techniques necessary to develop a startup – from problem formulation and idea generation, until the presentation of a tested prototype. The revised list of contents of this course for the year 2022 is placed on the table.

The topics taught on this course are also anchored with some of the processes to research-related courses, such as Thesis Writing, Feasibility Study, Capstone Project, and so on. The process of identifying and understanding a problem can be done by tethering them to at least one of the UN’s 17 SDGs, and the development of a solution can be done through design thinking methodologies and the development of a business model canvas.

The Train the Trainers for Technopreneurship (shortened to “Train the Trainers”) is a new event that occurs each term. It aims to empower faculty members with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively educate students and nurture an innovative learning environment. This event also provides a forum for participants to express concerns, driving enhancements to the Techno100 curriculum, and thus ultimately improving the student learning experience and fostering innovation. The first Train the Trainers was developed during the Third Trimester, SY 2021-2022, and was held last May 19-20, 2022. The second Train the Trainers was also conducted during the First Trimester, SY 2022-2023.

The Technopreneurship Demo Day (shortened to “Techno Demo Day”) is a new trimestral event that serves as the course’s culminating activity, where students showcase their outputs in the course. It also aims to raise awareness of the InTTO and the impact of Technopreneurship on community and professional development.

Prior to the formal event, the InTTO has received a total of 24 video pitch submissions across seven Colleges for the Third Trimester, SY 2021-2022. For the second event at First Trimester, SY 2022-2023, the number has risen to 96 submissions to over five Colleges. These were then finalized to 15 teams who pitched their ideas live.

The first Techno Demo Day was conducted during the Third Trimester, SY 2021-2022 on July 29, 2022. The second Techno Demo Day was conducted during the First Trimester, SY 2022-2023 on November 17, 2022.
