Student journalists from The Alternative, the University of the Cordilleras’ official student media and publication, captured major recognitions in the Individual Events of the 24th Regional Higher Education Press Conference held in Baguio City from February 11 to 13, 2026.

Leading the roster of winners, Marcela Sofia M. Solis, Junior Layout Artist, was named 2nd Highest Individual Pointer after securing two 1st Place finishes and one 2nd Place award across her categories, an achievement that distinguished her among the regionโ€™s top campus journalists.

Jiro Maeda Dela Cruz, Junior Staff member of the Sports Writing Department, was elected Public Information Officer of the Association of College Editors โ€“ Cordillera Administrative Region, further affirming the publicationโ€™s growing influence beyond competition events.

With these achievements, The Alternative further strengthened its reputation as one of the regionโ€™s leading student publications, securing the title of 3rd Runner-Up Overall Champion in the competition.

The student journalists will represent the University and the entire region at the upcoming Luzon Higher Education Press Conference in Cagayan this March 2026.
