Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies students from UC College of Arts and Sciences showcased their scholarly work at the 8th Linguistic Society of the Philippines International Conference held at West Visayas State University in April 2026.
Carlos Enrico B. Abainza and Jullienne Christine P. Capili presented their undergraduate theses before an international academic audience.
Abainzaโs study, โThe Sound of Silence: Student Agency in ENGL 100 (Purposive Communication),โ examined silence as an intentional communicative act and proposed a framework for understanding it as an agentic strategy in classroom interaction. Capiliโs research, โEvaluating the Language Vitality of Ambala Ayta in Pastolan Village,โ assessed the level of endangerment of the Ambala Ayta language and advanced community-based approaches for its revitalization.
Organized by the Linguistic Society of the Philippines, the conference gathered linguists, educators, and researchers from across the country and abroad to engage in discussions on language education, policy, and applied linguistics.
