The University of the Cordilleras brought together higher education institutions (HEIs) and key stakeholders for ALLUYON 2026 on October 13. Organized by the Commission on Higher Educationโ Cordillera Administrative Region (CHED-CAR), the initiative promoted cultural heritage, youth empowerment, and regional collaboration.
The event featured three plenary sessions. Dr. Serafin L. Ngohayon and Dr. Maileenita Penalba discussed Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices in ASEAN Communities. Ms. Adelaida Guia and Mr. Rolly Keth B. Nabanalan led the session on Creative Industries, Culture, and Higher Education in ASEAN Connectivity. Dr. Dave E. Marcial discussed Microcredentials: Flexible, Stackable, and Future-Ready Learning Pathways for the Cordilleras and ASEAN.
A major highlight was the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) among CHED-CAR, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), and Cordillera higher education institutions to strengthen student protection against exploitation. The agreement sought to institutionalize global readiness, education on illegal recruitment and trafficking in persons, and safe international mobility and migration awareness programs across state universities and colleges (SUCs) and HEIs in the region.
The two-day event concludes on October 14.
