UC Commits to Building Strong Communities and Fostering Academic-Industry Bonds

Demonstrating a proactive approach to fostering collaboration and enhancing partnerships by actively engaging with local stakeholders is exemplified in Project H.E.L.E.N of the University of the Cordilleras. The university created a policy designed to identify and collaborate with external stakeholders, forging partnerships for sustainable development in the region.

Outreach programs are one of the main methods through which UC actively connects with outside stakeholders, as exemplified by Project H.E.L.EN. These programs have been developed in alignment with UC’s policies and procedures, such as UC-CSR-PG-01. This guides the university in planning and implementing outreach initiatives aimed at fostering and strengthening the bonds between the academic institution and the community.

The guideline stipulates facilitating the entry of Project H.E.L.E.N. into the community through a substantial link and acknowledgment from the concerned LGU or community. Additionally, the conduct of a Community-Based Needs Assessment is encouraged to better understand and address the community’s specific needs.

Furthermore, from September to December 2022, UC’s Career Center established key partnerships and collaborations with various entities to create opportunities and enhance the educational experience for its students. There were partnerships formed with SM City Baguio, Prosple, DOLE-CAR, and the Baguio Tourism Council.

SM City Baguio has opened doors for students to explore internships and participate in career talks. Likewise, Prosple’s involvement with UC has translated into potential job placements for students. The collaboration extends to career fairs, enabling students to interact with potential employers and explore placement opportunities.

Furthermore, representation is a key component of UC’s relationship with the Department of Labor and Employment in the Cordillera Administrative Region (DOLE-CAR). As a representation of the academic community, UC actively took part in the Jobs Fit 2022โ€“2025 Consultation meeting. These partnerships not only enable students to make knowledgeable career decisions, but also forge a link between academia and business, promoting a mutually beneficial connection that benefits the larger community.

The University of the Cordilleras is proactively promoting educational and employment opportunities while also promoting Sustainable Development Goal 16: “Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions” by working with organizations like SM City Baguio, Prosple, DOLE-CAR, and the Baguio Tourism Council to promote internships, career talks, participation in career fairs, and job placements.
