The University of the Cordilleras (UC) reinforced its commitment to ethical artificial intelligence integration in higher education as it hosted Dr. Dave E. Marcial, Director of the Global Studies Center at Silliman University and Chairperson of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Technical Panel for Information Technology, for a seminar-seminar workshop on responsible AI-supported learning on July 29, 2026, at the UC Auditorium.

The session introduced a structured model for leveraging generative AI while preserving academic integrity, intellectual ownership, and human-centered reasoning. Dr. Marcial emphasized that effective AI adoption extends beyond prompt engineering, requiring deliberate cognitive engagement throughout the learning lifecycle.

The framework outlined four critical decision points in AI-assisted learning: Purpose, which defines the educational intent behind AI utilization; Process, which identifies the intellectual tasks that should remain human-driven; Prompt Quality, which promotes specificity, transparency, and ethical prompting practices; and Post-Check, which focuses on fact verification, critical evaluation, reflective refinement, and accountability for the final output.

Participants further examined the AI-Assistance Spectrum, classifying AI use into Green, Yellow, and Red zones based on levels of ethical acceptability and academic risk. Discussions explored responsible prompt architecture, verification protocols, research augmentation, and the distinction between AI as a cognitive support system rather than a substitute for human scholarship.
