The University of the Cordilleras strengthened its commitment to environmental sustainability through an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activity on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), circular economy, and sustainable waste management in September 2026.
The initiative enhanced environmental awareness and encouraged responsible waste management practices among the UC community. It put to light proper waste segregation, recycling, resource recovery, organic waste management, circular economy principles, and sustainable sanitation practices.
Major General Jerito A. Adigue, CCTF Senior Deputy Commandant of the Industrial, Environmental, Safety and Pollution Control Command (IESPCC), served as the resource speaker. He discussed practical approaches to waste management, including the potential of microbial-based solutions to complement appropriate practices in addressing selected organic waste, odor, and sanitation concerns, subject to proper application and site requirements.
Conducted in partnership with Classique Herbs Corporation (CHC) Agritech, represented by Project Development Officer Jennifer Valencia, the IEC emphasized that effective waste management requires collective action and sustained participation.
