Three 3rd Year Computer Science students from the University of the Cordilleras – College of Information Technology and Computer Science presented their research at the 23rd International Joint Conference on Computer Science and Software Engineering held in June 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Researchers Radge Daryll A. Carbonel, Yasmien Jen C. Gayao, and Gerryle R. Martinez presented their study, “Benchmarking YOLO Architectures for Real-Time Grocery Item Detection in a Localized Retail Context,” which explores the use of computer vision and deep learning to improve item detection in local retail environments.

The research was conducted under the guidance of their thesis adviser, Dr. Joan Peralta, with Mr. Efraim Jededia Pangan and Ms. Lovely Jenn Reformado serving as panel members.

Co-hosted by King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi and the IEEE Thailand Section–IEEE Computer Society Thailand Chapter, JCSSE 2026 brought together researchers and practitioners to discuss advances in computer science, software engineering, and artificial intelligence.

The conference received 785 paper submissions from 30 countries across six regions, of which 160 papers across 18 research topics were accepted. The Object Detection track featured five accepted papers, while the Philippines contributed eight authors across two accepted papers.
