University of the Cordilleras (UC) IT students Stefany Mae Caliao and Aldith Mirador won the ASEAN Data Science Explorers (DSE) national championship, with $1,000 cash prize, on September 5, 2024, at De La Salle University, Manila. Caliao and Mirador’s winning project uses SAP Analytics Cloud to address waste management problems, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals 11, 12, and 13. The entry is a Capstone Project that aligns with UC’s commitment to championing sustainability initiatives.

UC placed 1st, University of San Carlos – Cebu landed 2nd, while Ateneo de Manila – QC ranked 3rd among 50 entries from Philippine Higher Education Institutions.

The two UC IT students will advance to the global round of the ASEAN DSE competition in October 2024 in Laos.
