BS Criminology students from the University of the Cordilleras and other higher education institutions, along with personnel from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), attended an academic lecture delivered by Fulbright Scholar Dr. Raymund E. Narag on June 22, 2026, at the UC Auditorium.
The lecture focused on risk assessment and the exercise of discretion within the Philippine criminal justice and correctional system. Dr. Narag underscored the importance of evidence-based approaches in strengthening justice system practices and decision-making.
He also challenged future practitioners to develop strong professional expertise while maintaining a firm commitment to ethics, accountability, and human rights in the field of criminology and corrections.
Dr. Narag is a Fulbright Scholar and currently serves as Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
The activity was held under the University of the Cordillerasโ Right2LIFE Project, funded by VLIR-UOS, which promotes human rights education and social justice through academic engagement.
