Members of The Alternative, the official student media and publication of the University of the Cordilleras, immersed themselves in the communities of Tublay, Benguet, as part of their Community Engagement activity on July 28, 2026.
The student journalists engaged with residents and learned about Tublayโs culture, local narratives, and emerging tourism destinations, gaining insights that extend beyond conventional news gathering and into community-centered journalism.
As part of the immersion, the students explored the Paterno Cave in Barangay Ambongdolan, one of the municipalityโs known natural attractions, allowing them to experience and document the stories surrounding the area and its community.
The activity was conducted in partnership with the UC Center for Social Responsibility โ Project H.E.L.E.N., with support from the Occupational Safety and Health Office, Student Affairs Services Office, and Medical Services to ensure the studentsโ safety and well-being throughout the engagement.
Through the initiative, The Alternative further strengthened its commitment to journalism that goes beyond reportingโlistening to communities, discovering their stories, and giving greater visibility to voices and places that deserve to be heard and known.
