The University of the Cordilleras – College of Law welcomed Associate Justice Karl B. Miranda of the Sandiganbayan on August 24, 2026, for a lecture on the legal professionโs continuing fight against corruption in the Philippines.
Held for the College of Law students and staff, the lecture explored the countryโs long-standing efforts to combat corruption, including the Philippinesโ pioneering role in developing anti-corruption laws and institutions. Justice Miranda also discussed key legal and evidentiary issues surrounding corruption-related cases, including plunder, malversation, bail, and the challenges encountered in prosecuting and adjudicating such offenses.
The activity was organized by the College of Law through its Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) COL Office as part of its efforts to provide students with substantive and practice-oriented learning beyond the classroom. The initiative also supported discussions related to the Legal Education Board (LEB)-approved Anti-Corruption Laws, Processes, and Institutions elective.
Justice Miranda is the 62nd Associate Justice of the Sandiganbayan of the Republic of the Philippines and currently serves as Chairperson of the Third Division. He also chairs the Judiciary-Wide Committee on Data Reconciliation, co-chairs the Justice Sector Coordinating Councilโs Technical Working Group on Data Reconciliation, and serves as a member of the Supreme Courtโs Sub-committee on the Revision of the Rules of Civil Procedure.
He is also engaged in legal education. He co-teaches the inaugural Anti-Corruption Law and Policy elective at the University of the Philippines College of Law.
