SEC Investor Education Roadshow in Baguio: Nurturing the Next Generation of Competent Investors

The SEC Baguio Extension Office conducted a highly successful Investor Education Roadshow as part of the commemoration of Investor Protection Week in 2022. This educational project, held in partnership with the University of the Cordilleras on November 9, 2022, attracted a lively and involved crowd from the students of the University of the Cordillera and Saint Louis University, enacting SDG 4. It was titled “Balik Alindog for Financial Literacy: The Path to Becoming an SEC-SEE (Scam-Proof, Equipped, and Empowered) Investor.”

The event saw active participation from 50 individulas representing the City Government of Baguio, the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, along with various partner agencies from the Cordilleras Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, and the Cagayan Valley Region. Additionally, numerous private sector stakeholders were also in attendance.

Engaging discussion took place as two experts from the SEX Baguio Extesnsion Office, Atty. Regina May Cajucom – De Guzman, Director, explored “Financial Fitness: Introduction to Personal Finance,” and Atty. Lalaine R. Arorong, Securtites Counsel II, addressed the critical topic of “Spotting and Unmasking Investment Scams.”

This event is extremely essential for carrying out SDG 4, which recognizes education as a fundamental human right and a crucial motivation for achieving all other sustainable development goals. It emphasizes education’s transformative power in tackling a wide range of global concerns. It is essential to create a more equitable future for everybody by ensuring that education is accessible, inclusive, and of high quality. Achieving these objectives is not simply a means to an end, but also a method of driving progress across the full spectrum of sustainable development.
